Home > Conditions We Treat > Neck and Back Pain
Any structure in the spinal column (including joints, discs, nerves, and soft tissues such as ligaments, tendons and muscles) can cause pain. Sometimes, these structures can create pain or altered sensations in other parts of the body, such as one’s arms or legs.
Sciatica, meanwhile, is a common form of pain caused by irritation of the sciatic nerve from a disc bulge, joint stiffness or tight muscles in the spine. The sciatic nerve is the longest nerve in the human body, going from the pelvis, through the buttock, down the leg and to the feet. Individuals experiencing sciatica will often feel pain, tingling, numbness or weakness originating in the lower back area, travelling all the way down to their feet.

How do we treat neck and back pain?
We specialise in using physiotherapy techniques to relieve pain caused by sciatica. We can also help with more general cases of back and neck pain.
The National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines recommend exercise, spinal mobilisation / manipulation and acupuncture to treat spinal pain.
Whether your pain has come on suddenly or developed gradually over a period of days or weeks, our physiotherapists have the advanced skills needed to deal with your pain. Often combining manipulation / mobilisations along with acupuncture and a specific exercise programme to address the cause of your pain, we will resolve your symptoms in the quickest possible time.
If you have longstanding symptoms, we have found that a short-course treatment to reduce your pain (followed by a regular top-up session every 4-6 weeks) will help to keep your symptoms to a minimum.
