What do cortisone injections do?
The purpose of a cortisone injection is to reduce inflammation and pain within a joint or soft tissue. Using cortisone for pain relief enables the patient to reduce their medication and make a prompt return to work and hobbies (as well as improving the patient’s ability to sleep and function properly).
A cortisone injection can also provide a window of opportunity for further physiotherapy to help strengthen and improve the mobility of the affected area. In this way, cortisone steroid injections can play a significant role in your ongoing rehabilitation.
For some patients, a cortisone injection can be used as a stand-alone treatment for particular flare-ups of joint or soft tissue pain.

Cortisone therapy: what to expect
Cortisone injections are available at the following David Bolwell clinics: Before you receive any cortisone injections, we’ll conduct a consultation to make sure this treatment is right for you. During this consultation, your qualified physiotherapist will ask you about your general health and what medication you take. They will also explain the procedure.
Cortisone injections generally cause less side effects than long-term anti-inflammatory medications. Your physiotherapist will make you aware of any possible side effects.
